What can chiropractic care do for you?
Enhance your body's self-healing process and help you maintain good health.
Who is a chiropractor?
Chiropractors are doctors who specialize in maintaining a harmonious relationship between the joints of the spine and extremities and the nervous system. By doing this, an attempt is made to enhance the body's own inherent healing ability.
Your chiropractor may also consider your diet, exercise and other natural methods as a way of promoting health without the use of drugs or surgery.
Chiropractors undergo four years of rigorous post-university studies at an accredited institution before they are eligible to write their licensing exam.
How does chiropractic care work?
First, your chiropractor will begin by thoroughly examining and assessing your area of concern, as well as talking with you about your health history. After this initial examination, your chiropractor will recommend treatment. Depending on the diagnosis, your treatment may involve a chiropractic adjustment, or other appropriate therapy.
X-rays; Will I need them?
X-rays are used to help rule out disease and help in the diagnosis of certain spinal conditions that are not readily visible during a physical exam. As each case is unique, x-rays will be taken only if required. The Family Wellness Clinic has a fully equipped ray facility, so patients are not required to go to another location for this procedure.
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
An adjustment is a gentle, controlled and directed pressure that your chiropractor applies with his or her hands. It helps restore a more normal position or motion, often relieving pain. Your age, size and individual diagnosis will determine which treatment technique will best help you.
How much will it cost?
In Ontario, chiropractic care is no longer covered under OHIP, however, most private health care programmes do cover a portion of chiropractic care. It is also authorized by the Workers' Compensation Board.
How can chiropractic care help others in my family?
People of all ages can benefit from chiropractic care. Seniors often suffer from chronic pain and stiffness.
Treatment helps to restore normal movement, reducing irritation of spinal joints and nerves, and easing this pain. Children often experience bumps, twists and falls, and some have poor postural habits.
These sometimes result in structural alterations which may not produce noticeable symptoms for some time.
Chiropractic care in childhood may reduce the likelihood of suffering the manifestation of these structural alterations as an adult.
